How to Set Up Goaffpro: Run Your Own Affiliate Program In-House

Affiliate marketing is a method where finding and nurturing affiliates who are a great fit for your products makes a significant impact on performance. Because it requires hands-on effort, it is also a strategy that merchants with limited advertising budgets should take full advantage of.

In this article, we introduce a Shopify App called Goaffpro, which makes it easy to run your own in-house affiliate program.

With Goaffpro, when bloggers or influencers on Shopify promote your products on a performance-based commission model, you can easily track results and process payouts — enabling you to run a scalable in-house affiliate program.

Goaffpro also offers a wide range of features that let you design your affiliate program with great flexibility, such as setting different commission rates per affiliate or per product. We will cover those features in this article as well.

StoreHero leverages its proprietary growth platform to support detailed operations that manual workflows cannot handle, as well as large-scale execution of growth initiatives.

Installing Goaffpro

Install Goaffpro from the Shopify App Store. The free plan is already feature-rich, so it's worth starting with the free version to see what it can do.

Goaffpro pricing plans

Let's walk through the key settings in the admin dashboard.

Payment Settings

Let's get started with the configuration.

First, go to Settings > Payments to configure your payment settings. It's generally a good idea to set up PayPal. Looking at the available payment options, you'll see that a wide variety of payment services from around the world are supported. If you also want to offer bank transfers, select Bank Transfer — keep in mind that bank transfers are manual and require extra effort.

You can also pay commissions via coupon codes or gift cards. This can be a great option if you're running an affiliate program with CRM-oriented goals.

You can also configure the following detailed payment settings — the level of granularity available is quite impressive.

  • Commission hold time: The minimum number of days after a conversion before a payout can be made.
  • Payment terms: The number of days after the billing date when payment is issued.
  • Minimum Payout: The minimum payout threshold.
  • Withholding Tax/Retention Tax/TDS/VAT: Whether to apply withholding tax.

Commission Settings

You can configure commissions in the Commissions menu. The default is set to 10%, but you can change it to any value.

Under Affiliate Commissions, use "Set commission for affiliates" to assign individual commission rates per affiliate. You can also set product-specific commission rates under Product Commissions via "New Product Commission."

Design a commission structure that is attractive both to your business and to your affiliates.

Integration Settings

Let's also cover how to connect with other services. Under Settings > Integrations, you'll find a list of services you can connect with.

You can integrate with CRM services such as Omnisend and Klaviyo. Once connected, users who register as affiliates will be added to your CRM app, tagged with "goaffpro" and "affiliate." This is useful when you want to notify affiliates about bestselling products, for example.

※ A note regarding PayPal Payouts integration: as it currently stands, even if you connect with PayPal Payouts, payments cannot be completed unless your PayPal account is based in the US, making it impossible to process payouts from the admin dashboard. We apologize for any confusion.

Page Settings

Under Look and Feel, you can customize the design of several pages related to your affiliate program.

The Landing page is used to showcase the appeal of your affiliate program and recruit new affiliates. In its default state, it may not be very compelling, so you'll want to customize it. Note that you don't have to use Goaffpro's built-in landing page — you can also use a page built with a page builder app such as Pagefly.

In the early stages of affiliate recruitment, many merchants reach out directly via DM or email to trusted customers or acquaintances, so if you don't plan to use a landing page much at first, it's fine to deprioritize building one.

The Signup page lets you configure the registration form for your affiliate program. By default, affiliates can sign up with just their name, email address, and password, but you can add additional fields such as date of birth. For example, you could use birthday data to celebrate top-performing affiliates.

Additional Advanced Settings

Under Settings > Advanced, you'll find additional detailed configuration options.

Default Referral Link lets you set the default URL included in affiliate links. If left unconfigured, it defaults to the homepage — but if you've created a dedicated landing page for affiliates, set that page as the target URL.

Referral Link Parameters lets you set the default query parameters appended to affiliate links. By default, utm_source=affiliate is added.

Affiliate Conflict Resolution determines how conversions are attributed when a customer clicks links from multiple different affiliates before making a purchase. You can choose between first-click and last-click attribution.

Order tags are tags applied to orders placed via affiliate links. Customer tags are similarly applied to customers who purchased through affiliate links. Both can include the affiliate's name, referral code, and more. You can also tag orders with the commission amount.

At a minimum, make sure to tag orders with which affiliate referred the purchase — this data can be leveraged in your CRM.

Single Sign-On provides source code that allows affiliates to access their affiliate dashboard directly from their customer account page on your Shopify store.

There are many more features available, but completing the settings described above is the minimum needed to launch your affiliate program.

Managing Affiliates

Once your affiliate program is up and running, you'll need to manage your affiliates.

Under Manage > Affiliates, you can view all registered affiliates. In addition to each affiliate's performance metrics, you can also review their commission structure, payment method, and other details. You can also view what the affiliate sees in their own dashboard — very handy when handling inquiries.

Summary

We introduced how to set up Goaffpro, a Shopify App that lets you run your own in-house affiliate program.

Running an in-house affiliate program takes effort, but by finding affiliates who are a great fit and maintaining strong communication and collaboration, those affiliates often become genuine fans of your brand.

Until a brand has built significant name recognition, running an in-house affiliate program tends to outperform using affiliate networks — and I believe those secondary effects play a large role in that success.

Make great use of apps like Goaffpro designed for in-house affiliate programs, and achieve meaningful growth for your business.
