Team Member Spotlight: Growth Partner Kuniji Takakura | Everyday Diligent Work Becomes the Best Training — Building Strength in Your Work and Adding More Tools to Your Arsenal.

Takakura works as a Growth Partner, supporting clients in growing their businesses. We sat down with him to learn more about his background and what he does every day.

— First, could you tell us about your background?

I majored in design in college, and my first job was in commercial display and interior work — I also worked for a company that manufactured playground equipment and environmental products for public facilities. I spent a lot of time on-site, wearing a hard hat.

After that, I stepped into the IT world as a designer at an internet company. Later, I co-founded an advertising media venture with a friend, went through a period of freelancing, and then spent many years at a company running O2O (Online-to-Offline) advertising and job listing media — evolving my career across design, UI/UX, product management, and marketing roles. After that, I worked as a coordinator at a social venture in early childhood education — a completely different industry — but I realized that leveraging my past experience was a better fit for me. One thing led to another, and I ended up joining StoreHero.

— What made you decide to join StoreHero?

The biggest draw was the vision of helping commerce businesses grow their shops with ease. I was also excited by the Growth Partner role itself — it felt fresh and unconstrained, which made it sound interesting.

— Was there anything that surprised you after joining?

From the outside, it might look like we're doing something complicated, but I realized we're actually simplifying complex processes to make them usable. I also get a real sense that the steady, day-to-day work ties directly into revenue growth and the expansion of the company.

— Could you walk us through your role?

I work on store-building projects and map out growth models for commerce clients' shops, identifying pain points and offering advice. I hold check-in meetings roughly every two weeks to track progress.

— What does a typical day look like for you?

  • Arrive at the office around 9 AM and organize tasks for the day.
  • Communicate with clients via chat and prepare for upcoming meetings.
  • Hold scheduled meetings, then follow up with clients on next actions afterward.
  • Configure store settings, check product information, and follow up on tasks delegated to the support team.
  • Request competitor research, investigate Shopify apps, and provide support for store builds.

That's roughly how my day unfolds.

— What do you keep in mind or value most in your work?

I try to always be aware of how each piece of seemingly mundane work connects to the bigger picture, and I make a point of communicating in a way that builds shared understanding with our clients.

— What kind of person do you think is a great fit for StoreHero?

Someone who keeps challenging themselves with new things while also having the balance not to lose sight of deepening what already exists.

— Do you have any goals or aspirations for the future?

The GP role involves an enormous amount of input — there's so much to learn every single day. It feels like the steady, daily grind is acting as training that gradually builds muscle.

Are you familiar with the movie "The Karate Kid"? It's an uplifting story about a bullied kid who becomes a karate hero. The protagonist Daniel isn't particularly muscular, but under the guidance of Mr. Miyagi — a Japanese-American karate master — he goes through incredibly unglamorous training like painting fences and waxing cars. And before he knows it, he's become astonishingly strong (it's fiction, but still). It's just an analogy, but that's exactly the kind of fun and depth I find in e-commerce growth.

Going forward, I want to keep stacking steady, incremental efforts — and build rock-solid muscles together with commerce businesses, turning that strength into a real weapon.
