What Is Quiz-Based Personalized Selling?
Quiz-based personalized selling is a sales approach where products are recommended based on the results of an online quiz.
Because recommendations are grounded in the customer's own answers, they feel relevant and convincing, which leads to higher conversion rates. When the recommendations are accurate, customers are also more satisfied, resulting in higher repeat purchase rates.
Examples of Quiz-Based Personalized Selling
The number of online stores using quiz-based personalized selling is growing. Here are a few examples.
Warby Parker
Warby Parker, the well-known D2C eyewear brand, also leverages quiz-based personalized selling.
By answering questions about face shape and personal preferences, customers receive personalized eyewear recommendations at the end. Since the suggestions are based on their own answers, customers find them genuinely convincing.

Murad
Murad, the skincare brand, also makes use of quiz-based personalized selling.
After answering questions about skin preferences, concerns, and lifestyle habits, customers receive product recommendations tailored to their specific needs.

Beardbrand
Beardbrand, a brand specializing in beard pomades, is an online store that excels at quiz-based personalized selling.
After answering questions about beards, they throw in a playful page before showing the results — a nice touch! (laughs)

Then, on the next page, they present a curated product list tailored to the customer.
Beardbrand not only offers an online quiz but also provides phone consultations, showing just how much they value individualized recommendations for each customer.

How to Implement Quiz-Based Personalized Selling on Shopify
Quiz-based personalized selling on Shopify is on the rise.
Both Murad and Beardbrand run on Shopify, and we're also seeing increased demand for quiz personalization store builds and consulting projects.
Building a quiz personalization system from scratch requires significant development effort, especially when you factor in ongoing maintenance.
We recommend combining Typeform with Shopify to simplify the implementation. Beardbrand, mentioned earlier, is also built using Typeform.
Below, we'll show you how to use Typeform and Shopify together.
We'll use our own experimental Shopify store — Japanese Kanji Store, which sells kanji T-shirts to international customers — as an example, since it also uses Typeform.
Design Your Quiz
Start by organizing the quiz questions, answer options, and recommended products in a spreadsheet.
This design stage is critical. It's not just about matching answers to products — it's equally important to make the quiz feel convincing and meaningful.
Design it so that by the time customers answer the final question, they feel they've fully expressed their preferences and situation.
Build Your Quiz
With Typeform, you can easily create a quiz form that looks great and feels polished.
The paid plan lets you build conditional logic branches and calculate scores, making it possible to create sophisticated quizzes.

Even for complex quizzes, the logic map view shown below makes it much easier to manage the flow.

Here's the actual quiz we use in the Kanji T-Shirt store — go ahead and try it, and feel free to buy something! (laughs)
Build the Quiz Results Page
Creating a compelling results page can significantly boost conversion rates.
Rather than simply listing products, you need to explain why those products are right for the customer — something like: "Because you are [X type of person], we recommend these products." The goal is to make the recommendation feel personally relevant.
There are two approaches to building the results page.
Create a Lightweight Results Page in Typeform
The simplest way to create a results page is to build it directly within Typeform.

You can also make the results entertaining and encourage customers to share them — quiz-style content tends to go viral, making it an effective customer acquisition tool.
When building the results page in Typeform, you link to the product recommendation on the next page — either a Shopify collection page or a product detail page.

If you want a lightweight implementation of quiz-based personalized selling, this approach is ideal.
Build a Rich Results Page Inside Shopify
It's also possible to build the results page within Shopify itself.
Without going into technical details, this involves pulling Typeform data into Shopify pages via Liquid to render the results.

By building the results page within Shopify, you can present the answers, quiz scores, and personalized advice in a rich, visually engaging format — complete with charts and illustrations — making the recommendations far more persuasive. It also allows you to handle complex quiz logic.
You can also save quiz results within Shopify so customers can view them on their account page, and implement automatic data updates when they retake the quiz. This enhances the account page experience and drives higher repeat purchase rates.
Quiz results can also be saved to Google Sheets and analyzed in BigQuery or Sheets to inform product planning.
